Three years! It’s been three years since our last post – can’t believe it. Hope this one’s worth all that bated breath:

Season 2024
Well, the big news is that Berlin CC 1st XI won the ODCV T20 league for 2024. (There was no 50-over league last year).

Yeah – we pretty much whitewashed every other team – easily one of our best T20 seasons ever. Congrats to captain Awais and his team for some superb performances. For more details, check out our season on Cricclubs
Our 2nd XI also had a good season, but sadly had to concede defeat in our last game. Winning 5 of 6 games wasn’t quite enough for us to win both divisions. But it was a very enjoyable (though truncated) season nonetheless. You can see highlights of that very exciting last game here.
Live-streaming
The phrase “Bet you can’t” has provided the incentive for some amazing advancements throughout history. It’s also why we starting live-streaming our matches on YouTube – just to prove it can be done. We bought some rudimentary equipment, set up some free software and the result is a video record of our league and friendly matches for the season. Feel free to subscribe to our YouTube site and like our videos. We are always looking to improve the quality and will introduce a second camera next season for wide-angle shots of those amazing sixes, fours… and catches!

Season 2025 and beyond
We now have two major projects in the pipeline. The first is our new pitch in Karow. Having been in negotiations with the Pankow Sportamt for nearly 10 years, we recently received confirmation that a new pitch will be built for us as part of the development of a sports ground in the north east of Berlin. The new complex includes an athletics stadium, football pitches, beach volleyball etc. As you might have guessed, they’ve pushed us into the small corridor to the east of the complex, which sadly means there is only 64 metres available for the square boundaries. Obviously, this is far too small for men’s cricket – but beggars can’t be choosers and it will nevertheless mean we can expand our offer of cricket to kids and women – possibly with the odd friendly and/or development match thrown in.

Our second project is the construction of cricket nets on an unused site next to a baseball pitch. We’ve held successful negotiations with the baseball club and had a site visit with the head of the Pankow Sportamt. The idea is to build a 4-lane net with one of the nets to be reserved for baseball. All the materials have been shipped from the UK and are currently in storage. As soon as we get approval for the project, we can start installing the net.

With the number of playing opportunities on the Maifeld decreasing each year, these projects will ensure the survival and expansion of our club.
Well that’s all the most important stuff for now. We’ll have more updates about the coming season and some info about our indoor training in the next post. If you have any suggestions for content or questions, just leave us a comment and I’ll try and get back to you asap. And don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube channel. Bye for now…
