In March 1979, a famous German musician, Udo Lindenberg, expressed his desire to play in front of an audience in the former GDR. He later wrote a hit single entitled Sonderzug nach Pankow – which roughly translates as ‘Special train to Pankow’, (Pankow being a large district of former East Berlin).
We are excited to announce that Berlin CC members will soon be doing some special training of their own in Pankow. Our project to build a training facility consisting of three net lanes for cricket and one for baseball has now been approved by the sporting authorities in Pankow.
Having sourced the area over a year ago, the club has now signed a contract to build the nets at the Sportanlage Rennbahnstraße in Pankow – teaming up with the Roadrunners Baseball Club who have allowed us to use a section of unused land next to one of their pitches.
This is a massive breakthrough for the club and means it can now use the facility to expand its offer of cricket locally and throughout the city – in particular to help get women and younger players get involved in the sport.
The net facility will allow members to train throughout the week with special times set aside for women and younger cricketers.
The project will be funded entirely by the club and its members, which is probably why there was little resistance from the authorities – who have had to put their own plans to redevelop the area on hold since 2022.
We’ll post updates, pics and vids of the work once we’ve started and give you details of how you can become a member of the club (if you aren’t already) and use the nets once we’re up and running.

The 2nd XI got off to a flyer with wins against old rivals BSC Rehberge and ACB 2nd XI on consecutive days. The 1st XI also got off to a successful start in their first weekend of games for the 2025 season, comfortably beating the Eagles by 8 wickets and the ‘Academy’ by 36 runs.
Sadly, the 2s couldn’t make it two out of three and lost narrowly by 3 wickets in their 3rd round match against a strong ICAB XI. Highlights of that match are available here on YouTube.
